Skincare works According to Science

The only Skincare works According to Science

The World is now full of skincare trends. Someone can easily get overwhelmed by so many new products. But Skincare that actually works is based on science, not on trends.

Understanding your skin type and chosing the proven ingredients for targeted skin types is the main challenge now a days.

In this write up we will breakdown the skincare regime, in a way that is built up by dermatologists and researchers.

1.Firstly identify Your Skin Type & Concerns-

Skin Types:

Oily, Dry, Combination, Normal, Sensitive

Common Concerns:

 Acne, Hyperpigmentation, Aging, Dehydration

2.  Scientifically built up Ingredients for Specific Skin concerns-

When it comes to skincare, certain ingredients are recommended strongly for their effectiveness for specific skin types. These ingredients are backed by dermatological research and plays significant role in improving skin based on its concerns.

For acne, ingredients like Salicylic Acid and Benzoyl Peroxide help to unclog pores and reduce bacteria also dullness.

Niacinamide regulates oil production and causes improvement in cell turnover.

In case of Hyperpigmentation and dark spots, Vitamin C, Azelaic acid, Kojic acid are known to brighten skin and reduce melanin production.

For signs of aging such as fine lines and wrinkles, Retinoids like Retinol, Peptides, Ceramides help in boosting collagen production, improve skin texture and improvement of the skin barrier.

If dryness or dehydrated skin is an issue then Hyaluronic acid along with Ceramides restore moisture keep skin hydrated which is a must have.

For oily skin and enlarged pores, Niacinamide, Salicylic Acid help in  balancing sebum production and refining skin texture.

Calming ingredients like Centella asiatica, Panthenol reduce inflammation and support healing of Sensitive skin.

As we age, from our mid 20’s to mid 30’s the natural synthesis of Collagen slows down. Hence leading to wrinkles, fine lines, loss of firmness and tightness of skin. So after certain age one should include collagen-supporting ingredients in their skincare routine as well.

3. Product Types someone should know for skincare-

Cleansers:

Gentle, pH-balanced

Exfoliants:

AHAs for dry/dull skin, BHAs for oily/acne-prone skin

Serums:

 Vitamin C, Retinol, Niacinamide

Moisturizers:

Gel based, Cream based

Sunscreen:

Broad-spectrum SPF 40+. Every single day, Reapply every 2-3 hrs if directly exposed to sunlight.

4.  Routine Example

Heres a basic skincare routine you can follow:

AM:

Cleanser (Gentle foaming for oily skin, Gentle hydrating and PH balanced for dry skin)

Vitamin C serum/Niacinamide serum

Moisturizer (with ceramides/hyaluronic acid)

Sunscreen (Broad-spectrum, SPF 40)

PM:

Micellar water for double cleansing

Cleanser

Active ingredients (Retinol)

Moisturizer (Repair barrier overnight)

So we can now see that, great skin isn’t about using more products and following the trend. It’s about using the right ones with right ingredients at right time to see visible results. Consistency and chosing research based ingredients are the real keys to long-term healthy skin.
