Mastering Eyeliner Styles: Tips and Tricks for Flawless Look

Do you ever feel completely bored with your look? Like, you wake up, do your hair, pickup clothes, but it’s just the same old thing every day. There is a saying that, variety is the spice of life. Yes, it applies here too. And the best part is, you don’t need a whole new makeup bag. You heard it right, that very same eyeliner you’ve on your vanity right now can do so much more. Get ready to change things up instantly. Let’s talk about different types of eye liner styles.

1. The “Everyday Go-To” Eyeliner (Your Usual Style)

This is your daily bread-and-butter. It’s just a nice, clean line that hugs your lash line. It’s all about subtly defining your eyes without being so loud. It could be thin, could be a little thicker, that is totally up to you. Usually just goes to where your lashes naturally end.

How to create:

  • Pick your favorite eye liner: Grab a liner you like. It can be pencil, liquid, that little pot of gel, or cream. They all work for this one.
  • Top Line First: Start from the inner corner of your upper eyelid. Now, try to get that line as close as possible to your top lashes. Just draw it straight out towards the end of your lash line.
  • Bottom line: If you want a little extra something, pop some liner on your bottom lid too. You can go all the way across, or just do the outer half, whatever feels right for your eyes.
  • Softening it Up (optional): If you want a softer vibe, grab a tiny brush or even a Q-tip and just gently smudge that line out a bit.
  • Tight lining: For eyes that look longer and lashes that seem fuller, gently lift your upper lid and run your liner right on that inner part of your upper lash line. It’s the game changer.

2. The “Bold & Beautiful” Look (Thick Eyeliner Style)

This is when you want your liner to really stand out. It’s more of a statement. You can keep it thick all the way across, or you can play around and make it gradually chunkier towards the outside of your eye. Depending on where you add the thickness, it can make your eyes look rounder or give you a super subtle wing.

How to create:

  • Start with your basic: Just do your usual eyeliner line on your top lid first, like we just talked about.
  • Now, Layer Up: Go back over that line. Instead of just tracing it again, draw a second line just above your first one, then connect them so you fill in that space.
  • Shape it the way you want: For all over thick eyeliner just keep that added thickness consistent from the beginning to the end. If you want that gorgeous rounder look, make the line gradually thicker starting from the middle of your eye and continuing outwards. It’s like you’re creating a little half-circle effect. If you want a cat-eye vibe then add some extra thickness at the very end and giving it a tiny wing upwards.
  • Tip for Smaller Eyes: If your eyes are a bit smaller then skip the jet-black, super-thick lines. A nice charcoal grey or a warm brown will give you definition without making your eyes smaller.

3. The “Two-Timer” Technique (Double Eyeliner Style)

This one is kind of cool because you’ve got two distinct lines. One is your regular liner on the lashes, and then a second one chilling out near your crease. It’s brilliant for adding dimension, especially if you have monolids, it’s like creating an optical illusion of a crease.

How to create:

  • First Line Down: Just do your regular top lash line liner. You can extend it a tiny bit past the corner of your eye if you want.
  • Find Your Crease: Feel for where your natural crease is. If you’ve got monolids, just imagine where a crease would be, that’s your target zone.
  • Draw Second line: From the outer corner of your eye, draw a line along that crease. Bring it inwards towards the middle of your eye. Decide how long or short you want this one, depending on your lid space.
  • Blend it Out: Grab a small brush and gently blend that crease line inwards towards your inner corner. It just softens everything and makes it look more natural, adding that gorgeous depth.

4. The “Classic Diva” (Winged Eyeliner Style)

This is the iconic flick. It’s that line that glides along your upper lashes and then shoots up and out at the corner, giving you that super elegant, lifted eye shape. That little flick usually points up towards the tail end of your eyebrow.

How to create:

  • Base Line First: Start with your standard upper lash line.
  • Aiming Point: If you’re feeling nervous, try this. Make a tiny dot right where you want your wing to end. Imagine a line extending from your lower lash line, angled up towards your eyebrow. That’s the sweet spot for your dot.
  • Draw the Bottom Edge: From the outer corner of your top lash line, draw a diagonal line upwards, heading straight for that little guide dot.
  • Connect the Dots: Now, from the tip of that wing you just drew, bring a line back down to meet the middle of your upper lash line. Now you’ve got a little triangle outline.
  • Fill it Up: Grab your liner and carefully fill in that triangle you just made.
  • Clean it up for the sharp edge: If you’ve got any wobbles, grab a super small brush and a dab of concealer. Just clean up the edge of your wing for that super crisp look.

5. The “Party Ultimate Party Liner (Fishtail Eyeliner Style)

This is pure fun, pure drama, perfect for a night out or any time you want to make a statement. This is not your everyday boring morning meeting look. It’s got two wings or split lines at the outer corner, hence fishtail.

How to create:

  • Top Wing First: Start by drawing your regular winged eyeliner, like the winged eye we just talked about on your upper lash line. That’s the foundation.
  • Now draw the Tail: From your lower lash line, draw a second line outwards. You can either make it run parallel to your upper wing or you can angle it slightly downwards.
  • Crossed Version: Instead of two parallel lines, you can try this- draw your upper wing. Then, from the inner part of the base of that upper wing, draw a line downwards and outwards so it actually crosses over your first wing.

Time to Experiment:

There you have it. All those different ways to totally transform your look, and guess what? You’re just using that one simple eyeliner you already own. It’s wild how much a tiny line can change your whole vibe, isn’t it? Honestly, trying out these styles isn’t just about putting on makeup, it’s about having a bit of fun, expressing yourself differently each day, whatever you feel like. Go on, grab your favorite liner, look into the mirror, and just try something new.
